Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We serve Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, and surrounding areas across Dorset and Hampshire. If you're unsure whether your location is within our coverage area, please call 01202 134667 or 07728 327859 and we'll confirm. We operate Monday to Friday 08:00–18:00 for non-emergency work.

How long have you been trading?

MME Heating & Plumbing is a family-run business led by Michael Creer, who has over 20 years of hands-on experience in gas, heating, and plumbing engineering. Michael personally attends every job to ensure it's done to a high standard. You won't be passed to a subcontractor.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. We're Gas Safe registered and Safe Contractor approved. Every engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card you can ask to see at any time, and we keep our registration current so all gas work meets the legal safety standards required by UK law.

What are your working hours?

Our standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. We can arrange Saturday visits by appointment for pre-scheduled work, and we respond to genuine heating emergencies outside these hours. Standard call out fees apply for out-of-hours work.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation quotes for boiler installations, air conditioning, and most heating work. Call us on 01202 134667 or 07728 327859, or use our online estimate tool, and we'll come back to you with a clear, transparent price, with no hidden extras.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards, bank transfers, and cash. Payment is typically taken on completion of the work. For larger installation projects, we're happy to discuss staged payment options to help you plan.

How much does a new boiler cost?

Boiler installations typically range from £1,900 to £3,000, including both the boiler and installation. The exact price depends heavily on the manufacturer you choose, the size and complexity of your heating system, and any additional work required. We'll give you a detailed, fixed quote after surveying your home.

How long does boiler installation take?

A straightforward boiler swap usually takes one to two days from start to finish. More complex system upgrades or full heating overhauls may take a little longer. We'll give you a clear timeline as part of your quote so you can plan around the work.

What boiler brands do you install?

We install all major boiler brands including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, and others. When a longer warranty is a priority, we typically recommend Glowworm. They offer excellent 10-year-plus cover for the price. We'll talk you through the best option for your home and budget.

Do you remove old boilers?

Yes. Old boiler removal and safe disposal is included as part of our installation service. We handle everything: disconnecting the old unit, removing it from the property, and disposing of it responsibly. You don't need to arrange anything separately.

Do you offer any warranty on new boiler installations?

Yes. All new boilers we install come with manufacturer-backed warranties, typically covering parts and labour for between 5 and 12 years depending on the brand and model. We'll explain the exact warranty terms before you commit, and we register the warranty on your behalf.

Do you offer finance on new boilers?

We don't currently offer finance plans on boiler installations. We keep our pricing as competitive as we can and provide transparent quotes so you know exactly what you're paying for. We accept card payments, bank transfers, and cash, and we can discuss staged payments for larger jobs.

How much is a boiler service?

A standard domestic boiler service is £90 plus VAT. This includes a full inspection, safety checks, cleaning of key components, and a Gas Safety Certificate. If your boiler needs anything beyond a standard service, we'll explain it and price it before we do the work.

How often should I service my boiler?

We recommend servicing your boiler once a year. Annual servicing keeps your manufacturer warranty valid, ensures safe operation, and helps the boiler run efficiently, which saves you money on energy bills. Autumn (September–October) is a popular time to book, ready for the winter heating season.

What's your boiler repair call out fee?

Our call out covers the first hour on site at £85 plus VAT during normal working hours (Mon to Fri, 08:00 to 18:00), then £70 plus VAT for each hour after that. Out-of-hours call outs are £125 plus VAT. The first hour covers travel, diagnosis, and advice.

Can you fix my boiler the same day?

In most cases, yes. We carry common spare parts in the van and aim to complete repairs on the first visit whenever possible. If a manufacturer-specific part needs ordering, we'll let you know straight away and arrange a return visit as quickly as we can.

Can you repair all boiler brands?

Yes. Our Gas Safe registered engineers have hands-on experience with every major boiler brand including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi, Ideal, Glowworm, and many more. We carry common spares and can source manufacturer-specific parts quickly when needed.

Do you offer landlord Gas Safety Certificates?

Yes. We provide annual Landlord Gas Safety Certificates (CP12) for rental properties across Dorset and Hampshire, meeting the legal requirements for gas safety in tenanted homes. Contact us to arrange an inspection. We'll issue the certificate on the same visit.

Are you qualified to work on air conditioning?

Yes. MME Heating & Plumbing Ltd is F-Gas registered under certificate number FGAS3029264, issued by the FGASREGISTER company certification scheme and valid until July 2029. It covers installation, repair, maintenance, servicing and decommissioning of air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pump equipment. You can view the full certificate on our air conditioning page.

Why does F-Gas registration matter?

Air conditioning systems contain fluorinated refrigerant gases, and UK law requires anyone installing, servicing, or decommissioning that equipment to hold F-Gas certification. Using an uncertified installer can invalidate your manufacturer warranty and leaves the work outside the legal requirements. Always ask to see the certificate.

How much does air conditioning cost to install?

It depends on the size of the room, how many rooms you want cooled, the type of indoor unit, and where the outdoor unit can go. Rather than quote a figure that turns out to be wrong for your property, we do a free, no-obligation survey and give you a clear written price.

Do you install air conditioning for businesses as well as homes?

Yes. Our F-Gas certification covers commercial work as well as domestic, so we install and maintain air conditioning in offices, shops, and other commercial premises across Dorset and Hampshire, alongside homes in Bournemouth, Poole, and Christchurch.

Can air conditioning heat my room as well as cool it?

Most modern air conditioning systems are heat pumps, which means they can heat as well as cool. That makes them useful all year round rather than just in summer. We'll talk you through whether a heating and cooling unit or a cooling-only unit makes more sense for how you use the room.

Do air conditioning units need servicing?

Yes. Regular servicing keeps the system running efficiently, maintains air quality, and protects your manufacturer warranty. Our F-Gas certification covers servicing and repair as well as installation, so we can look after the system we install for you year after year.

Do you offer commercial heating and plumbing services?

Yes. We provide a full range of commercial services including boiler servicing, repairs, non-domestic gas testing (UP1/UP1A), catering appliance certification, and emergency breakdown response. We work with businesses of all sizes across Dorset and Hampshire.

How much does commercial servicing or a breakdown cost?

We don't publish a commercial price list. Commercial boilers and plant vary enormously between sites, so a figure that's fair on one system would be misleading on another. Tell us the make, model, and what's happening, and we'll come back with a clear price for your actual setup.

What commercial certifications do you hold?

We're Gas Safe registered for commercial work and hold the additional qualifications required for non-domestic gas testing (UP1 and UP1A) and commercial catering appliance certification. This enables us to serve larger commercial properties, catering kitchens, and industrial premises legally and safely.

Do you provide Gas Safety Certificates for commercial premises?

Yes. We provide commercial gas safety inspections and certificates for non-domestic properties, including offices, shops, cafes, restaurants, schools, and care homes. We inspect pipework, test for leaks, verify safety devices, and issue the relevant certification on the same visit where possible.

Do you offer emergency breakdown response?

Yes. We understand that a heating or gas failure at a commercial property can cost you money by the hour. Call us immediately on 01202 134667 or 07728 327859 if you have an emergency and we'll respond as quickly as possible. For booked-in work, we aim to arrive at the agreed time.

Can you work around our business operating hours?

Absolutely. We know downtime costs commercial clients money, so we schedule work around your operating hours wherever possible. We can arrange early morning, evening, or out-of-hours visits to minimise disruption to your business. Just let us know what works for you.

Do you provide ongoing commercial maintenance contracts?

Yes. We offer tailored maintenance contracts for commercial clients covering regular boiler servicing, annual gas safety inspections, and priority response for breakdowns. Contact us to discuss a plan that suits your property, your budget, and your compliance requirements.
